Math:  Today we reviewed for the Unit 2 Number Theory Test.

HW:  Itty Bitty Book Project is due tomorrow (please follow guidelines), Unit 2 Test is on Friday (please study your keeper notes,review sheet, study guide,parent letter, online resources for ch 1 lesson3, ch 4 lessons 1-3,ch 5 les 1)

Enrichment:  Computation challenge - Dividing Mixed Numbers .  Topic for the day:  Determining theoretical and experimental probability using spinners.  Review:  we reviewed our symmetry and probability vocabulary for tomorrow's quiz.

HW: Use your Little Book to study vocabulary words for tomorrow's quiz, practice dividing fractions and mixed numbers for tomorrow's quiz

Today during 5th period we had a schoolwide event to celebrate the money we raised selling magazines for technology. LMMS won the chance to watch a BMX bike demonstration!

Math:  Students completed an "Around the World" (around the classroom) unit review.  We moved from desk to desk answering 20 problems about number theory including story problems.

We checked our study guide and quizzes were returned.

HW:  Itty Bitty Book is due Friday for a major project grade (please follow the guidelines) and our Unit 2 Test on Number Theory is on Friday (please study your keeper notes, ch. 1,4,5 and previous worksheets, study guide, parent letter, online resources)

Enrichment:  Computation challenge:  We learned how to divide mixed numbers.  Topic of the Day:  Transformations - we drew an original object and then reflected it, rotated it 180 degrees, and translated it.

HW:  Finish your transformations, study vocabulary for your quiz Friday, practice dividing fractions and mixed numbers for your quiz Friday

Math:  Our counselor Mrs. Fields came to visit.  She talked to the students about the benefits of using the agenda, checking the blog, getting notes about absences to the front office within 3 days of returning, finding out and completing make-up work in a timely manner, being tolerant of other people's differences, trying new things and having a good attitude.  The students loved how she equated this with going on a trip.

Enrichment:  Our computation challenge this week is dividing fractions and mixed numbers.  We returned to order of operations to continue practicing this concept.

HW:  Reading Log is due Oct. 12, study your vocabulary (little book) - quiz is Friday

Math:  We did our Monday timed fact activity.  Please be practicing multiplication facts at home if you have not mastered 50 or more out of 60 in 2 minutes yet.

We checked LCM and simpliest form on our slide method worksheet.  Some students are not continuing with the slide and finding all the common factors which makes their LCM calculate incorrectly too high.  Please continue to practice and come in for extra help between 8:50 and 9:10.

We began a project to help us prepare for the Number Theory Test on Friday.  We made an Itty Bitty Book. This will be a major project grade (same as a test grade).  Guidelines were given and explained.

A study guide was passed out.

HW:  Study guide needs to be completed. It is due Wednesday.  The Itty Bitty Book is due Friday.  The test is on Friday. Study session Tuesday 8:20 am

Enrichment:  We made an Itty Bitty Book to study our vocabulary about Symmetry and Probability. As a class we used our books to find the definitions and examples for our little book.

HW:  Reading log is due on Oct. 12th.  Please be reading at home.  This is only 2 weeks away!!! You must use the key at the bottom of the log and read the equivalency of 7 books based on this key. Summer reading may be included.

Math:  We applied GCF to a real life situation (HP p. 27 #20).  The test will have story problems.  To prepare, try the story problems in chapter 4, lesson 2 and3 and chapter 5, lesson 1.  We checked our slide worksheet for GCF.  Today we covered the 4 methods of finding LCM.  I gave keeper notes on LCM.  We practiced the slide to find LCM and simpliest form if the numbers were written as a fraction.  To find the LCM multiply the common factors on the left by the leftover numbers on the bottom of the slide.  To find the simpliest form, use the 2 numbers on the bottom of the slide.

HW:  The Slide Method Worksheet (half page) - complete the LCM and Simpliest form columns.  Show all work on a separate piece of paper (make sure to bring this in!)

Enrichment:  We finished our book talks and took a multiplying mixed number quiz and a vocabulary quiz. Then students silently read for their log.

HW:  Read for your log.  Your reading log is due Oct. 12th!

Please get your parent to sign your progress report envelope and return it to your homeroom teacher tomorrow if you have not already done so.  Please keep the progress report.

Math:  We checked Exponents HP p. 3.  Make sure to follow the directions!

Focus:  We learned how to find GCF (Greatest Common Factor) 3 different ways (chapter 4, lesson 3).  We glued in keeper notes.  After seeing each method, the class analyzed and judged the method (we made pro/con lists).  As a class, we liked the new "slide" method!  We practiced it on white boards using the Slide Works sheet for examples.  Remember it is like upside down division and you are looking for common factors.  When you have pulled out all the common factors to the left, multiply them to get the GCF.  If you only pulled out one factor and you're done, then that number is the GCF.  If you cannot figure out any higher common factor, the GCF is 1. Bring back the practice worksheet tomorrow.

HW:  The Slide Works worksheet (it is a half sheet) - fill in only the GCF column.  Do your work on a separate piece of notebook paper.   Please buy a glue stick for your use.  I had 2 buckets of glue sticks on Aug. 15.  Now I have none!

Enrichment:  We practiced multiplying fractions and mixed numbers. We played a game to review our vocabulary for tomorrow's quiz. We learned the order of operations and began practicing this skill to help us with our algebra unit in math.  Bring back the order of operations worksheet to finish next Tuesday.

Math:      We did a warm-up to review our vocabulary, took our quiz and then worked on Exponents HP p. 3.

Enrichment: 

Computation Challenge:  We learned how to change a mixed number into an improper fraction to multiply mixed numbers. We also reviewed how to simplify our improper fraction in our answer back to a mixed number.

CRCT Prep:  We used our CRCT prep books to review prime factorization and data analysis.

HW:  Read for log, study your flashcards for your vocabulary quiz, practice multiplying mixed numbers (try www.aaamath.com)

Math:  Our warm-up concentrated on finding, explaining and correcting mistakes in exponents and prime factorization.  We played flyswatter math to review our vocabulary for this unit.  We checked HP p. 26 #10-20 on prime factorization.  Finally we completed a quiz review to prepare for tomorrow.

HW:  Use your keeper, quiz review and online resources to prepare for tomorrow's quiz on divisibility, prime and composite, factors and multiples, prime factorization and exponents (These concepts are found in chapter 1,4,5)

Enrichment:  We learned how to cross reduce to be able to multiply fractions and whole numbers.  We continued our book talk presentations.

Due to our book talks, I did not have time to pass back graded quizzes.

HW:  Read for log, study flashcards to prepare for Friday's vocab. quiz 

Math:  Today we did our timed fact activity (MMM).  Second period had 8 people reach their goal to move on to the next skill!!!

Focus:  Prime Factorization (chapter 4, lesson 2).  We worked in groups of 4 and practiced finding and writing prime factorization with exponents using a placemat activity.  I was able to meet with each student to check their progress.  Please go online or use your keeper to help you tonight with this skill.

HW:  Prime Factorization HP p. 26 #10-20,  Math Quiz on Wednesday.  It will cover divisibility rules, prime and composite, factors and multiples, prime factorization and exponents.  Study session is tomorrow at 8:20

Enrichment:  Students copied their new set of vocabulary about algebra into their keeper.  Students gave pressentations "Book Talk" about their summer reading book to the class.

Math:  Following a pattern we discovered what a number raised to the zero power equaled (1) or raised to a negative exponent.  We found the value for numbers written in exponential form and then compared the values.

We checked our Power worksheet for a homework grade.

Focus:  Prime Factorization chapter 4, lesson 2.  We glued in keeper notes and realized that it did not matter which two factors you started your factor tree with, you would always find the same prime factors in the end.  We also wrote our prime factorization with exponents.  We used versatiles to practice prime factorization.

HW:  Study keeper notes and chapter 1, lesson 3 and chapter 4, lesson 2.  Quiz is next Wednesday on prime, composite, factors, multiples, divisibility, exponents and prime factorization

Enrichment:  I collected the book talks and logs from summer reading.  We will have our book talks on Monday.  We did a vocab. review and then took a computation challenge quiz on dividing decimals and a vocabulary quiz on geometry terms.

HW:  Read for your enrichment log
