Math: The Unit 9 Probability Test was returned today.  Problems were reviewed upon student request. Students did a great job asking questions!

We checked multiplying and dividing integers HP p. 97 and 98 odd.

We played flyswatter math to practice the rule for multiplying and dividing integers:  same signs, positive answer.  different signs, negative answer

HW:  Multipying and Dividing Integer HP p. 97 and 98 EVEN, Quiz Friday (study chapter 11, lessons 6 and 7 and keeper #42 about multiplying and dividing only)

Enrichment:  We practiced dividing with mixed numbers using versatiles.

HW:  Read for log.  Finish dividing mixed numbers worksheet - show all work on a separate piece of paper and put your answers back on the worksheet. Bring your work back also.

Math:   We reviewed that an integer is a whole positive or negative number or zero.  We watched a Brain Pop video on absolute value and reviewed the difference between absolute value (distance from zero; How many units away from zero?) and opposites (same distance on the other side of zero). Then we checked our homework worksheet that reviewed us on comparing and ordering integers and identifying integers in real life. (chapter 11, lessons 1 and 2)

Today we focused on multiplying and dividing integers.  (chapter 11, lessons 3 and 4)  Remember to figure out your answer's sign first!   Rules:  Same signs for the factors? positive product.  Different signs for the factors?  negative answer.

HW:  Multiplying and dividing integers HP p. 97 and 98 odd problems only.  Remember "4n"  is an expression.  You must substitute in the value they give you for n and the multiply!  Don't forget to follow the rules for the sign!  Quiz on Friday!

Enrichment:  We focused on multiplying mixed numbers again and used versatiles.

HW:  Read for your log.  Bring back your classwork tomorrow to finish in class.

Math:   Today we began our last unit on integers to prepare students for 7th grade.  We discussed what was in the set of integers (all positive and negative WHOLE numbers and 0) and how integers are used in the real world (chapter 11, lesson 1).  The number 0 is an integer, but it is neither positive nor negative.  Decimals and fractions can be positive or negative, but not integers.  We learned the difference between opposites and absolute value (see keeper notes #40 from yesterday's blog).  Finally we learned how to compare and order integers (chapter 11, lesson 2). We practiced in our book and by making a human numberline. Please look over these lessons online at www.my.hrw.com and use your notes to help you with your homework.

HW:  Compare/order integers and Real World integers worksheet (make sure to write the integer beside the real world example before graphing it using the directions) - use your notes and chapter 11 to help you!  Bring in Box Tops for Education for school bucks!

Enrichment:  Today we used an interactive game called Versatiles while reviewing comparing fractions and mixed numbers.  We also reviewed multiplying mixed numbers.

Math:  Today we reviewed our vocabulary from this unit during our warm-up.  We checked our study guide for a classwork grade and our quiz for a quiz grade.  We discussed many concepts about probabiltiy to prepare for Monday's test.

HW:  Complete HP p. 102,103, 105 on probability. Unit 9 Test is Monday. Study keeper notes #40 and 26

Enrichment:  We related volume and surface area to the concept of cube-n-ometry.  We completed a probability review to support our math class.  Everyone tried a "cube" challenge problem!

Career Day is this Friday!

Math:  We completed a warm-up about probability written as a decimal and we predicted theoretical probability if the number of trials was increased using a proportion.

We checked 2 probability worksheets for a homework grade and the third probability worksheet with the king on the top for a classwork grade. We went into great detail and reviewed many aspects involving probability. 

HW:  Complete the study guide and the take home quiz.  You may use your notes, the book, online resources and your worksheets from today to help you with your quiz.  You may not use help from a parent on the quiz.  Your parent may help you with the study guide.  Both are due tomorrow.  Unit 9 Probability Test is Monday, April 25.  Please study your notes on probability and conversion (#40 and 26)

Enrichment:  We turned in our customary measurement activity.  We focused on cube-n-ometry.  We built configurations using blocks and tried to draw it from the top, front, and side viewpoints.  We also answered questions about this concepts.

HW:  Read for your log, remember to bring your silent reading book every day.

Career Day is this Friday!  Adult speakers will be sharing their careers with students throughout their classes.

Math:  We worked on theoretical and experimental probability.

HW:  Finish the 3 probability worksheets that were begun over the last week in class. Unit 9 Probability Test will be Monday. Study session on probability is tomorrow morning at 8:20 am

Enrichment:  We checked our menu math (concept: application of percent of a number). We finished our customary measurement activity.  We silently read for our log.  We enjoyed lunch outside!

HW:  Finish customary measurement activity if you did not in class. read for your log, the log is due on May 23rd

SS CRCT is on Monday.

Enrichment:  We reviewed measuring to the fraction of an inch by creating a picture through a series of directions.
